Abstract :
This paper presents an experimental investigation of micro-machining of diamond by ferrous material, in order to get the diamond into an arbitrary shape, though utilization of diamond graphitization and tool wear during the cutting process. It is found that ferrous material can polish and shape single crystal diamond, even though diamond is much more harder than ferrous material. For comparison, machining by other materials was also conducted, and the removal rate was measured. The surface roughness of machined diamond is comparable with the surface roughness of new commercial cutting diamonds, and better than the laser manufacturing surface roughness
