Abstract :
The author compares the performance of coded quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) and analog frequency modulation (FM) for the delivery of video services by satellite. The proposed digital video scheme uses the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG-2) video compression with a concatenated coding. The performance of both systems is compared. The digital video scheme is shown to be more robust in noise and to increase the number of video channels when compared to FM. This allows the use of a smaller receiving antenna and results in lowering the cost per service delivered
