Abstract :
Computer-assisted methods that demonstrate that vestibular maculas are organized as weighted neural networks for parallel processing of information are discussed. Experimental results show that information processing by the network begins with the sensory tufts of hair cells, which appear to differ in physical attributes according to network composition. Findings are now being incorporated into mathematically based, visual models of a functioning system. A computer workbench is under development to assist the reconstruction and modeling effort
