Abstract :
In this paper, we present a new lumped element equivalent circuit to model spiral inductors used in VCO circuits. The new structure uses frequency independent components to model the frequency dependent behavior of the spiral inductor. A new graphical method used to design and optimize the spiral inductor is presented as well. This graphical method, called inductor chart, helps reducing the time needed to design the spiral inductor and optimize its geometry for certain applications
