Abstract
This paper presents a unified and flexible approach to the design of a reliable physical network topology. Along with reliability, the cost and performance issues of the topology under both faulty and fault-free conditions are also addressed. We have used genetic algorithm as a tool and presented an algorithm covering all the issues of cost, performance and reliability in an unified way. The work ensures performance guarantee under single link failure. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the approach.
