Abstract :
The sudden change in loads cause power system parameters such as voltage, current and power factor to vary. The magnitude of these variations depend upon the load rating. These fluctuations leads to loss in power quality and ultimately blackouts. Dynamic addition of capacitor banks brings solution to this problem. In this paper, the Dynamic Power Factor Control (DPFC) of single phase AC system is discussed. This paper proposes a method of adding and removing capacitor banks dynamically from the system using MOSFET switches. This is done to compensate for the reactive power fluctuations occurring in the system owing to the changing load pattern. Different grades of capacitor banks are used to compensate to the required level thereby bringing power factor close to unity.
