Abstract :
One kind of good drought monitoring technology (DMT) can help to detect and characterize drought conditions, and reduce adverse drought impacts. We evaluate how a DMT for China, based on a land surface model, would perform. The land surface model current soil moisture, runoff and evaporation. The DMT incorporates the Palmer drought severity index (PDSI) and soil moisture deciles taken from the LSM. We construct the drought event (1972). We also compare soil moisture based on model result with PDSI in different parts of China. Our results show that LSM can be used in drought monitoring in China and can provide information about drought conditions for different water users.
