Abstract :
The virtual topology overlay on a physical topology optimizes a performance measure: lightpath congestion on a physical link, traffic congestion on a lightpath, or maximum (or average) hops on the virtual topology between a source destination pair in the network. The Virtual Topology Design (VTD) is typically obtained as solution to a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP) that optimizes any of the above performance measures. In this paper we investigate the effect of optimizing on measure on the other measures. A case study is carried out in order to analyze the basic proprieties of the model and the trade-off between the objectives for optical networks with and without wavelength conversion resources.
