Abstract :
In Wireless Ad Hoc networks the nodes operate with limited battery energy. Thus, energy consumption becomes a crucial topic in the design of a new Ad Hoc routing protocols. In order to maximize the life time of the network, the traffic should follow a route with nodes that have high energy. Moreover, in order to support real-time applications, it is necessary to develop routing algorithms that take into account Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as end-to-end delay, bandwidth, power level, among others. This is because the new services and applications such as video demand, and video conferencing, require a higher level of QoS than the other types of applications. Hence, the traffic should follow a stable and short route from source to reach the destination in time and without loss of information. In this paper, we propose a new protocol, called Power and Delay-aware routing protocol for Ad Hoc networks (PDRP) that is founded on the "Stable Path Routing Protocol based on Power Awareness" (SPR). This proposed protocol balances trade off between energy consumption and end-to-end delay. To evaluate our proposed protocol, simulation analysis has been performed using NS-2 tool. Our simulation experimental results show that there are significant improvements in the throughput and end-to-end delay for our proposed protocol as compared to the SPR and Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocols.
