Abstract
Summary form only given. This paper proposes a new adaptive error diffusion method using fuzzy control laws. Error diffusion methods with raster scanning cause an excess edge enhancement phenomenon in a step edge. If the gain of filter coefficients can be changed in step edge regions, we can avoid such an effect. In the proposed method, the filter coefficients are adjusted by using fuzzy rules based on the difference between the pixel values of a processing point and the other points in the filter mask. Therefore, the gain of the filter can be reduced in the step edge region. Finally, simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
