Abstract :
Remote rendering and visualization for large geometrical models or complex scenes calls for efficient transmission. One effective methods for the transmission is to stream the model data based on region-of-interest (ROI) strategies and partial updating of consecutive frames. In this paper, we propose such an interactive streaming transmission scheme for point-based models. The technique of view-dependent level-of-detail (LOD) is incorporated in our scheme to provide viewers with gaze-guided control on the streaming. Its efficiency results from a multiresolution simplification scheme based on hierarchical clustering and a compact data structure for organizing the LOD hierarchy. In addition, we investigate the redundancy between consecutive frames in order to reduce both the transmission data and local storage space. Experiments with some large models show the efficient performance of our algorithm.
