Abstract
The development of a planar wideband directional channel model applicable to UMTS microcells is addressed. The model, a statistical one based on geometrical considerations, is implemented and simulated, its assessment being based on global parameters of channel impulse responses obtained from measurement results. Exemplifying results for the directional channel impulse response are depicted for streets based on the city of Lisbon. For longer distances, system performance improvement is expected when using adaptive antennas
