Abstract
A new fractal image compression algorithm based on high frequency energy (HFE) partitioning and matched domain block searching is proposed for SAR imagery coding. The proposed coder uses a new criterion to partition image and a novel method to search the matched domain block for each range block to code the low frequency component of the transformed SAR image by wavelet. Peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), encoding time and subjective visual assessment were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed coder. Simulation experiment results show that the proposed coder outperforms the traditional fractal coders.
