Abstract :
This work shows a practical implementation of a series active power filter for voltage regulation and voltage harmonics compensation on a 3-phase 13.8 kV bus. It is shown how a 13.8 kV bus can be compensated, even using a 220 V low cost IGBT inverter. Problems of the proposed topology are shown as well their solutions, by means of modifications in traditional control algorithms. A noise-tolerant algorithm, based on a modified id-iq method, is also presented. The paper explains why conventional techniques are sensitive to data acquisition noise and shows where the vulnerability is located. Simulation results are presented to compare the two techniques. Experimental results, for the 13.8 kV bus, are also shown.
