Abstract :
Techniques of reliability evaluation of large and complex fault-tolerant systems are described. It is noted that Markov modeling technology is in a better position to handle redundancy management, operational considerations, and safety issues. The computing resources can become a serious problem if proper techniques of model simplification are not applied. Specialized skills are currently needed to develop system models. However, efforts are underway to package and disseminate analytic tools and skills so that the design engineers are able to evaluate their own designs
