Abstract :
A new call admission control (CAC) scheme is proposed. It is built upon a reserve channels CAC scheme, in which some reserve channels are allocated using the cost factor. This scheme also enjoys the strongpoint provided by the DTBR scheme, in which multiple thresholds are used to meet the specific quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. A wireless network cell serving two types of customers; narrowband customers (e.g. voice services), which require 1 channel and wideband customers (e.g. data services), which require bw ≥ 1 channel is considered. The proposed scheme is compared with the DTBR scheme to demonstrate that the R-DTBR is capable of providing the QoS guaranteed for each type of traffic, while at the same time leading to much better channel efficiency.
