Title :
Reliability analysis of mechanical components in undersea lightguide communication systems
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
For a typical system, the mechanical components are cable terminations, cable-to-cable junctions, repeater housings, and the lightguide cable itself. The methodology consists in identifying various failure mechanisms associated with each component, and using either a mathematical model or experimental data to analyze these. The cable termination is used as an example to demonstrate the reliability analysis methodology. The failure mechanisms for the other components are summarized to provide an overview, without any detailed analysis
