Abstract :
In this paper we compare the capacity of different modulation schemes for a chopper amplifier. Using a simple theoretical model for noise we derive the capacity of unmodulated, chopper modulated and randomly modulated amplifiers. Experimental measurements of standard and randomly modulated amplifiers are performed and the information rates compared. When the chopping frequency is constrained to be the same, standard chopping provides higher information transmission than no modulation or random chopping.
