Abstract :
In this paper, we introduce an open slot antenna in a finite groundplane that is bent along the slot axis a slot-wedge configuration. It is centrally fed with a 50Ω coaxial cable. We demonstrate that the bending angle influences the pattern, while the impedance bandwidth remains essentially the same. There is an optimal angle for maximum directivity for a given groundplane size. This slot-wedge antenna has stand-alone applications as a particularly simple and effective antenna. Its wedge angle can be reconfigured for changing beamwidth and stable impedance match over a wide bandwidth. It could also be cavity-backed and integrated onto complex-shaped platforms, such as the conductive case of laptop, or cellphone, etc., by occupying a corner or edge position. Finally, multiple slot-wedge elements can be combined into a circular array, and this is suitable for pattern adaptation within a circular field of view.
