  • Abstract
    Ethernet passive optical network is an emerging high-speed access network that can provide high bandwidth for TV service. However, traditional digital TV service based on digital video broadcasting standard broadcasts its data stream to end-users, which will add enormous burden to server and waste valuable bandwidth. To carry digital TV data stream efficiently, in this paper, we propose a novel architecture of carrying DVB service over EPON. The proposed solution achieves transmitting data stream in multicast mode and buffering program stream with no choice to watch to meliorate carrying efficiency. Simulation results show that proposed solution adopting IP multicast technology can improve the utilization of bandwidth. And this solution can be flexibly applied to interactive services, such as video-on-demand and voice over IP.
