Abstract :
Conventional microwave dielectric lens antennas are often rejected as potential candidates for high-gain antenna applications due to their weight, thickness and fabrication cost. A new thin phase-shifting surface (PSS) geometry was introduced in [1] and used to realize free-standing transmissive microwave devices and lens antennas [l]-[3]. This paper presents a comparative review of the performance of such thin, lightweight, low-cost antennas achieved using the PSS concept. Some possible future extensions are also discussed.
