Abstract
A beam steerable square loop antenna over hybrid high impedance surface is designed and simulated with the help of Agilent ADS momentum and its benefit in increasing the Wi-Fi range and speed is demonstrated. At a test frequency of 4.7 GHz, the antenna produces a tilted beam in the direction of Φmax = 315° and θmax = 30° with 8 dB gain. Compared to conventional laptop antennas, the proposed antenna has 6 dB more gain and switchable radiation patterns, which are instrumental in increasing the range and upload/download speed of portable wireless devices.
