Abstract :
Optical millimetter-wave generation using up-conversion is considered a cost-effective solution for Radio over Fiber (RoF) systems. In this paper we focus on frequency tripling and frequency quintupling generation using modulation of an optical carrier by means of a dual parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator using Optical Single Side Band (OSSB) modulation. Our results shows that this approaches is practically feasible and provides robustness against fiber dispersion when an unmodulated RF carrier is considered. However, when the RF carrier is modulated with data additional effects such as the data dispersion need to be considered.
