Abstract :
Summary form only given. Heart rate variability (HRV) is an important marker in the diagnostics of some diseases associated with autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunctions. One of the advanced methods is the spectral analysis of heart rate variations (SAHRV). Early diagnosis of ANS disfunction is very important from the point of view of prevention and subsequent therapy. This fact served for the authors as a starting point in the development of diagnostic systems enabling the telemetric transfer of data defining the size of R-R intervals of ECG signals with a precision of 10-3 s. The system involves an adjustable chest belt with integrated electrodes, and a transmitter and receiver of coded IR radiation or a coded RF signal. The receiver is connected to an IBM AT PC. The system is completed by software allowing the determination of the ANS state during special examinations, i.e. the Ewing´s battery of cardiovascular tests and short-time spectral analysis of HRV. The calculation of SAHRV parameters is performed according to coarse-grained spectral analysis, with optimum suppression of the noise component of the analysed signal. The result of the analysis is a number of parameters describing the present state of both ANS subsystems (sympathetic and vagal) and a 3D graphic output showing the dynamics of ANS activity changes in the course of whole test. The present experience of VariaPulse application shows the possibilities of its use both in daily medical practice and under conditions of experimental work. It can be applied in cardiology, diabetology, neurology, sport medicine, etc
