Abstract
The kiln back-end temperature is known to be a key factor in the stability of kiln operation. A kiln control strategy that relies on consistent adjustment of parameters to maintain a stable back-end temperature can significantly improve the kiln performance. Such a control strategy, based on the 27 basic kiln conditions derived from burning-zone temperature, back-end temperature, and oxygen percent, has been developed and implemented with expert systems technology. The approach provides a simplified methodology that is independent of the kiln, and addresses the main requirements associated with developing expert system applications for kiln control. The methodology is described in detail, and results are presented. A method for displaying the complete kiln status without presenting any numerical values of parameters is described
