  • Abstract
The authors describe a scheme for improving placement of arbitrarily sized rectangular blocks in the framework of VLSI layout automation. Three operations, namely linear ordering, reflection, and rotation are carried out to obtain a near-optimal placement. This flexible scheme realizes a wide range of block-exchange followed by the possible reflection and rotation of any block, and enables the efficient improvement of placement.<>
