Abstract :
Electric boats can constitute a valid solution to face the nowadays energy paradigm. Among other advantages, the electric chains on-board of a boat can be efficient and environmental friendly. In this paper, the electric chain of an electric boat is modeled using as reference a low scale system. The system is studied considering a boat equipped with a DC-DC converter, a DC motor and an energy storage system (using lead acid batteries or Ni-MH batteries). For the electric power chain with these elements, a solution controlling the boat speed is presented and discussed based on the sliding mode control method. In this paper, the main aspects of modeling the Ni-MH batteries and the electric power chain in order to control linearly the speed of the motor, are presented and discussed.
