Abstract :
Mechanical and electrical characteristics of DC motors are important indicators of proper assembly and design integrity. Tests of the individual components of the motor can yield information on these parameters but this is not suitable for end of line testing after the motor is assembled. For geared motors it is desirable to evaluate the mechanical efficiency of the gearing and the amount of frictional loss in the motor as well as the electrical resistance and motor torque constant. This can be done using tests at three load points as described in this paper
