Abstract :

The field of conducting polymers has witnessed unprecedented growth In the synthesis of a wide variety of materials, their characterization and study of their possible technological applications. Electrochemical synthesis of conducting polymers is an elegant method. However, almost always a p-type material is obtained and it has not yet been feasible to synthesize an n-type conducting polymer by the above method. We have considered a new approach where a monomer is cathodically polymerized to polyanion which can get stabilized by taking up the cation from the electrolyte. Our results show that a polymer has polyaromatic/polyacenic structure.
