Abstract :
A searchable database system for biomechanics, chemical, and microscopic property data of grass stems were developed. Stems were obtained from typical leguminous forage and gramineous plants in northern China grasslands during their harvesting seasons. The system used the Chinese Version of Visual basic 6.0 and the Matlab software for data analysis, respectively. The server used SQL Server 2005 with a typical C/S system for database construction and management. Searches used SQL data standards. Queries were made by direct data access using ODBC logics, Data were also collected on cellulose, lignin and protein contents, and microscopic properties of stems under various water content conditions. The data were uploaded onto the database, categorized according plant mechanical, chemical and microscopic properties, biomechanical relativity using database technique and Matlab software. Outputs to queries were displayed in tables and graphics in terminal computers. The database provides not only a foundation for further improvement of this database and development of similar databases but also a useful tool for grass genetic and process researches.
