Abstract
As part of its document, ´Water for the Future´ Essex Water proposed a metering pilot scheme to assess the costs and benefits of installing meters. The company decided to take an area close to Chelmsford-Galleywood-and compulsorily install about 3500 meters in 12 months. Essex Water are being pushed to minimise the cost differential of maintaining metered accounts as compared to unmeasured. OFWAT believe it should be as low as Pounds 5, even though the National Metering Trials show Pounds 19. In order to explore the costs, Essex Water has decided to trial a radio based system from RAMAR. The author describes the RAMAR system and its application.<>
