Abstract :
A facility has been developed to study spark gap switches under repetitive operating conditions. This facility enables the recovery characteristics of DC charged spark gaps (up to ~80 kV) and pulse charged spark gaps (upto ~300 kV) to be determined at pulse repetition frequencies (PRFs) from 1-10 kHz. Measurements of the voltage recovery characteristics in corona stabilised spark gaps has shown that it is possible to operate these switches at PRFs far greater than those found with conventional switches
