Abstract :
Power quality of electric power supply has gathered huge attention in recent years due to its high impact in the manufacturing industry of electrical devices. Poor power quality has brought several constraints to the manufacturers of electrical devices. Harmonics is one major reason behind poor power quality and elimination of harmonics is done through the use of active filters. We focus on developing a controller for series active filter to eliminate voltage harmonics, sag and swell in this paper. The series filter is used to eliminate voltage harmonics and to balance and regulate the terminal voltage of the load. The series active filter injects a voltage component in series with supply voltage which is added or subtracted from the source voltage thus maintaining the load side waveforms as pure sinusoidal. A voltage source inverter is used as series active filter. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is one of the most efficient and effective modern custom power devices used in power distribution networks to mitigate power quality problems such as voltage sag and swell. A comparative study between different control algorithms has been carried out by simulating the various controllers in MATLAB Simulink platform to analyze the performance.
