Abstract :
The PASC coding technique used in the digital compact cassette (DCC) can handle an 18 bit dynamic range. A reliable measuring system was developed to evaluate the sound quality of DCC coding. By means of a number of different test situations, listeners were asked to indicate whether they heard an original or a PASC coded sound. By repetitive blind testing listeners have to score statistically better than just luck; the statistical distributions of the various scores have to grow sufficiently apart
