The author describes the results derived from a propagation measurement trial performed by INMARSAT in an attempt to assist the design of a potential low cost, portable, and low G/T L-band global data messaging system operating in hostile landmobile channels. Field trials and signal analysis are discussed, and an interpretation of the results is given
