Abstract :
The committee associated with the development of the American Petroleum Institute´s (API) Standard 541 4th Edition realizes that many individuals working with this standard may not have experience or knowledge of motor theory, operation and testing. For this reason the Standard includes a design guide to assist with the decision making process. This paper further addresses the testing requirements of the standard by explaining when and why these tests are required. The sequence of topics in this paper follows the paragraph numbering for API 541 4th Edition.
