Abstract :
The application of large, medium-voltage induction motor adjustable frequency drives requires substantially more systems engineering than that of low-horsepower drives. The power supply, drive, motor, and driven equipment must be integrated as a system for a successful installation. Concerns over mechanical and electrical resonances, harmonics, drive cooling systems and other application problems are presented. The aim of this study is to aid the equipment user in understanding the technical requirements of system engineering, rather than provide rigorous detailed calculations. It is essential that today´s industrial electrical engineer understands the complexities of installing a large drive system to properly evaluate or direct the use of these drives
