Abstract :
Summary form only given. Today´s complex multimedia and communication applications require highly specialized high-performance processors that are configured specifically to meet the required performance. These highly configured multiprocessor-based solutions must also meet the power consumption requirements in a very small die size in order to meet the commercial challenges of a finished product. Configuring each individual processor for the best performance in handling algorithms for audio, video, multiplexing, encryption, security, etc., as well as interfacing these individually configured-processors via the appropriate system-on-chip interconnect/bus, requires new and complex modeling challenges for the system architects. Historical advances of microprocessor, introduction of configurable processors, utilization of configurable processors for multimedia and GPS applications based on the required performance model, tools that would allow the needed system modeling and optimizations, etc., will be addressed in this speech.
