Abstract :
A novel current-mode design approach is described in this paper which permits transimpedance amplifier formulations to achieve gain-bandwidth independence. Simulation employing representative device data suggests that an optical receiver front-end amplifier designed along these principles will exhibit gain-bandwidth independence through the GHz region. A new wideband amplifier design based on this novel structure is compared to theoretical predictions and shown to achieve excellent bandwidth and produce a significant improvement over the constant gain-bandwidth-product of previous traditional designs
