Abstract :
Punjab is one of the most fertile regions of India. Its major source of economy is agricultural land but the rural areas of Punjab still lack in technological benefits. The cadastre boundary of villages of Punjab is quite old and requires updations. Our work is based on the integration of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) for development of rural areas of Punjab. We developed survey map, collected the spatial image of the village and geo-referenced the mussavi i.e. a traditional map drafted by revenue department during consolidation. We used Global Positioning System (GPS) survey and Field Measurement Book (FMB) for the validation of area of computed field boundaries. A comparative analysis among these three was prepared to identify the gap between actual boundaries of the village and its status in traditional revenue records system, which demands regular updations in cadastre maps. A web based GIS model through Content Management System(CMS) has been developed to represent physical bodies and mapping of spatial images with rural database of village which includes assigning unique property id, updations of birth death records, status of government schemes availed by the villages, updations of their crops detail etc. Our research will act as basis for the implementation of government schemes and disaster management in rural areas. This paper recommends the use of these GIS and GPS techniques with the case study of village Budhiana.
