Abstract
The demand of next generation mobile communications includes not only high data transmission rate, indoor coverage but also the capability to provide QoS guaranteed services to high user density areas under the constraint of limited radio spectrum. In order to fulfill these requirements effectively, cognitive radio and femtocell are considered as promising technologies. Moreover, the dearth of simulation tools in designing and assessing the role of cognitive radio and femtocell in communications systems is also an important problem. In our research, we have built a software tool and use this simulation tool to evaluate the performance of three channel allocation schemes including two conventional schemes and our proposed scheme which is denoted as Flexible scheme. The simulation results not only show the performance gains of the Flexible scheme but also give us a more intuitive view of the operation of the system.
