Abstract :
We reexamined the infinite foursquare antenna array to determine functionally its limitation at a 1.6:1 bandwidth. Our results point to the presence of too much inter-square capacitance, acting concurrently with inter-element capacitance. Subsequent designs altered the foursquare array element to widen the bandwidth. A vertical taper in the distance to ground repeating along each element further widened the bandwidth to 4.8:1 in simulation for a circularly polarized array.
