  • Abstract
    An approach for fully integrated automation with Profibus and protocol conversion gateway is proposed and implemented within an industrial control network consisting of different kinds of devices, as there are several fieldbus subsystems and Ethernet segment coexisting. Based on the analysis of Profibus protocol, a design scheme for Profibus-DP communication interface to implement master or slave functions was presented. Aiming at realizing interoperation between Profibus devices and other fieldbus devices, a gateway system for protocol conversion is designed. Profinet technology is adopted to encapsulate Profibus devices into Profinet components, which provides an efficient way to connect fieldbus device to industrial Ethernet by means of node-to-node communication.
