Abstract :
With the rapid growth in wireless communication, the available spectrum is being congested day by day. There has been increasing demand for proper utilization of the limited and precious spectrum. Many surveys conducted show the inefficient utilization of available band of frequencies. Cognitive Radio system comes with a solution to fill the loop holes of underutilization of the spectrum. Its key function is to detect the white spaces/holes (vacant spaces) in the frequency bands which can be used by unlicensed users to enhance its spectrum efficiency. This paper reviews a number of spectrum sensing techniques in Cognitive Radio like Energy Detection, Cyclostationary Feature Detection, Matched Filter Multitaper, Wavelet Transform, Multiple antenna, etc. available in literature.
