Abstract :
The making of regional ice-load maps is crucial to the effective anti-icing design for overhead transmission lines. And it is a complex work and has different properties in different countries. A systematic method to create regional ice-load maps for transmission lines is proposed based on the actual conditions in China. The process includes the collection of meteorological observation data and icing accident data, calculation of the equivalent radial ice thickness, numerical simulation of ice accretion, spatial interpolation for ice data, correction on altitude, map drawing and development of visualization software system. The maps obtained by this method are more effective and accurate, especially for the region where the historical observation data are shortage. And finally, a visualization software system is obtained, which is easily accessed for ice data and conveniently implemented for realtime update of ice maps with the increase of observed data.
