Abstract
In this paper, the authors present a simple technique for significantly enhancing the bandwidth of a dual-polarized patch antenna designed on an electrically small ground plane while using inexpensive FR-4 substrates. This technique can be applied to designs using most standard substrates found in consumer electronics devices. Furthermore, acceptable radiation coverage and efficiency are maintained, and the radiation pattern performance is not compromised by this technique.
