Abstract
Functionalities of radar systems include distribution and archiving of images. Radar equipment often operates in continuous mode, e.g. in VTS and RIS systems or on vessels, and gathers a large quantity of image data which occupies a lot of disc space. This paper presents an analysis of radar image compression methods used mainly in marine and inland navigation systems, which enables assessment of the effect of compression on the quality and size of radar images.
