Abstract
Electric motors impact a wide range of application domains in the automotive industry, from manufacturing equipment to the automobile itself especially for electric and hybrid vehicles. Among electric motors, AC motors offer many advantages over their DC counterparts with respect to size, weight, cost, and power, but they also exhibit a complex nonlinear character and their control therefore requires a very complex and costly electronic equipment. A fuzzy logic controller also represents a very complex nonlinear structure and, thus, is adequate for complex nonlinear systems. This paper investigates a fuzzy logic adaptive control structure and applies it to control an AC induction motor geared towards implementations in the automotive industry
