Abstract :
UPnP/DLNA is now working as a de-facto standard for multimedia sharing in home network. Basically UPnP/DLNA is a peer-to-peer protocol and does not have dedicated server to control or monitor devices in home network. Sometimes this results in unexpected behavior such as heavy network traffic by multiple contents list aggregation on DLNA MIU devices. In this paper, we propose Generalized Election Architecture for UPnP devices to eliminate duplicated functionality in a home network. The proposed method provides ways to link a control point and a device, and election of one device between multiple candidate devices.
