Abstract :
The two major systems for dealing with hazardous (classified) locations are examined. These two systems are those of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Differences in terminology, methods of protection, and philosophy with respect to the levels of risk provided by these methods of protection are discussed
